Security, Development, and the Responsibility of Nation-Building
Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable development requires more than political competition; it demands a collective commitment to truth, national unity, and the common good.
As a nation, we must continue to confront our challenges honestly while also recognising and supporting the progress being made across critical sectors of our economy and society. It is through this balanced approach that nations grow stronger and democracies mature.
No responsible leader should ignore the security concerns confronting parts of our country. The pain experienced by families affected by criminality and violence is real. Communities deserve peace. Citizens deserve safety. Government has a responsibility to continue strengthening the security architecture of the nation and supporting the brave men and women who work daily to protect lives and property.
At the same time, national discourse must not become so consumed by challenges that it loses sight of progress.
Across the country, significant investments are being made in infrastructure, economic reforms, energy development, transportation networks, and other strategic sectors designed to strengthen the foundations of long-term growth. These efforts represent important steps toward creating a more competitive, productive, and prosperous Nigeria.
The commissioning of major infrastructure projects such as the Outer Southern Expressway in the Federal Capital Territory is a reminder that development remains ongoing and that government must continue to focus on delivering tangible benefits to citizens.
Democracy thrives when political actors engage constructively and present alternative ideas that contribute to national progress. However, the pursuit of political advantage should never come at the expense of national stability, public confidence, or social cohesion.
Nigeria belongs to all of us.
Regardless of political affiliation, religion, ethnicity, or region, our collective responsibility is to strengthen the institutions that support democracy, promote peace, and create opportunities for future generations.
As citizens, we must remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies in their efforts to combat criminality. Communities must work together, share information responsibly, and remain committed to safeguarding the peace and stability of their environment.
I also commend the dedication, sacrifice, and patriotism of our armed forces, security agencies, and all those who continue to serve on the frontlines in defence of our nation. Their contributions often go unnoticed, yet their commitment remains vital to preserving the security and unity of Nigeria.
History teaches us that nations overcome challenges when their people remain united in purpose and confident in their future. Nigeria has faced difficult moments before and emerged stronger. There is every reason to believe that we will do so again.
Elections will come and go. Political debates will rise and fall. But Nigeria will endure.
Our task, therefore, is not merely to win political contests, but to build a nation that is secure, prosperous, united, and worthy of the aspirations of its people.
The future of Nigeria depends on our ability to place national development above division, progress above pessimism, and hope above fear.
Together, we can continue building the Nigeria we all desire.
