The President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio, has extended warm Christmas greetings to Nigerians, particularly the Christian faithful, urging citizens to use the season as an opportunity to promote peace, love, unity, and compassion across the country.
In his Christmas message, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President described Christmas as a sacred period that calls for reflection on the timeless values of love, kindness, sacrifice, and generosity, which the birth of Jesus Christ represents.
Senator Akpabio encouraged Nigerians to embrace the true spirit of the season by showing empathy to one another, especially to the less privileged, and by extending goodwill beyond religious, ethnic, and social boundaries.
According to him, the celebration of Christmas should go beyond merriment and festivities, serving instead as a reminder of the virtues that bind humanity together and strengthen national cohesion.
“On behalf of my family, my constituents, the Senate, and the entire 10th National Assembly, I heartily rejoice with our Christian faithful as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ,” the Senate President said.
He further invited Nigerians of other faiths to join in the celebration, noting that the values embodied by Christmas are universal and speak to the shared humanity of all citizens.
“To our brothers and sisters of other faiths, I encourage you to join us in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. This season calls on all of us to exude love, tolerance, and understanding—not only during the festivities, but in our daily interactions. Let us strive to be our brother’s keeper and work collectively for a more peaceful and united nation,” he added.
Senator Akpabio also urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and resilient in the face of current challenges, stressing that perseverance, unity, and faith remain essential to national progress.
He expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, noting that the country is on a path of renewal and reform under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. He called on citizens to continue supporting government efforts aimed at economic recovery, institutional stability, and national development.
“As we celebrate this season of hope, I pray for peace in our land, unity among our people, and continued progress for our nation. With collective effort, shared sacrifice, and faith in our destiny, Nigeria will emerge stronger,” the Senate President said.
Senator Akpabio concluded by wishing Nigerians a joyful Christmas celebration and a peaceful, prosperous New Year, reaffirming his commitment—alongside the National Assembly—to serving the nation with dedication, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility.
