Today, alongside my wife, Unoma, I was delighted to welcome an outstanding son of Akwa Ibom, Councillor Jason Utitofon Jackson, the Mayor of Islington, and his family on a courtesy visit in Abuja. It was a moment of pride to see one of our own carrying the torch of Nigerian excellence abroad.
From Akwa Ibom to Global Leadership
Mayor Jackson’s journey is a powerful story of resilience and determination. Born in Nigeria and raised in Hackney, East London, he pursued his studies at City and Islington College before moving on to earn a degree in Business and Law from London Metropolitan University. He later advanced his expertise with a Master’s degree in Big Data in Culture and Society from King’s College, London.
Inspiring Nigerians in the Diaspora
Today, Cllr. Jason Utitofon Jackson stands as Mayor of Islington—one of London’s most vibrant boroughs. His achievements embody the values of education, service, and leadership that Nigerians, particularly Akwa Ibom sons and daughters, are known for worldwide. His rise is a source of inspiration for millions of Nigerians in the diaspora, reminding us that our nation’s talent continues to shine on the global stage.
Pride of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria
Mayor Jackson’s success reflects the uncommon spirit of excellence that defines Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians everywhere. His leadership journey underscores the fact that with vision, persistence, and integrity, Nigerians can not only compete but also lead anywhere in the world.
This visit was more than a courtesy—it was a celebration of Nigerian resilience, Akwa Ibom pride, and the global impact of our people.
